Terms

Using this site means accepting what follows. It is short, and the part that matters most is the second section.

What this is

An independent archive of how offshore racing yacht designs perform, built from handicap measurements and from race results published by the clubs and organisers who ran the events.

It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting for any rating authority, class association, builder, designer or sailmaker. Names of builders, designers and boat models appear because they identify the designs described; they do not imply any relationship with their owners.

What the figures are, and what they are not

The speeds on this site are calculated predictions, not stopwatch times. They come from each boat's measurements, run through a performance model, and describe an idealised boat in flat water with a fresh crew and clean sails. Your boat, on your day, will be slower.

A design is described by the median of the boats measured under it, which means no single boat matches the page exactly. Two examples of the same model can differ by half a knot because of sails, bottom finish, loading and rig tune — none of which the measurements capture. The scores are relative positions within a class, not absolute speed: the same figure in two different classes is not saying the two boats are equally fast.

Race results are reproduced as the organisers published them, including their mistakes. Where a boat could not be matched to a measurement record with confidence, it is left out rather than guessed at, so a record may be incomplete.

None of this is advice on which boat to buy, what to change, or how to race. Before a decision with money or safety attached — a purchase, a new sail, a rig change, a passage plan — look at the boat itself and take professional advice. To the extent the law allows, the site is offered as it is, with no warranty that any figure is accurate, current or fit for a purpose, and we accept no liability for decisions taken on the strength of it.

Corrections

If something here is wrong, tell us and we will fix it — that is worth more to us than to you. Write to info@tackregatta.com with what the page says and what it should say. The same address handles requests to remove something that relates to you personally, as the privacy page explains.

Using what you find here

Read it, quote it, argue with it, send it to the crew. Quoting a figure or a passage with a link back is welcome and needs no permission.

What is not welcome is taking the archive wholesale: automated harvesting, bulk extraction, or republishing the analysis as a dataset or a competing catalogue. The underlying measurements belong to the authorities and organisers who published them; the calculations, the scores, the written descriptions and the way it is all put together are ours. If you want to use any of it at scale, ask — the answer is often yes, and a working arrangement beats a scraper for both of us.

Submitting race results

Signed-in users can point us to results we have not collected yet, through the report page. What you send — the name of a regatta, a club's website, the link to a results page — is used to find, read and publish those results, and is kept with your account so that we can come back to you about it. We may decide not to use a report, and we do not have to say why.

What you send becomes TackRegatta's. By sending it you assign it to us, to keep, use and publish without limit of time, and it stays with us if you later close your account — no longer linked to you.

Please send only results published by the organiser of the event. They are reproduced as the organiser made them public, as described above; sending the link does not make you answerable for them.

If you report on behalf of a sailing club, you confirm that you are entitled to act for it, and you authorise TackRegatta to name the club as the organiser of its regattas, to link to its website and, where available, to show its logo next to them. The club can withdraw this at any time by writing to press@tackregatta.com.

Accounts

You can sign in with Google or with a one-time code sent to your email address; there is no password. You are responsible for what you do with your account and for keeping access to your email to yourself. You need to be entitled to link the boat you claim, and we can suspend an account that is used to impersonate someone, to harass, or to scrape the site.

You can close your account whenever you like, from the My boats page, in one step. The boats you follow and claim and your sign-in details go with it. The regattas you reported stay in the archive, as explained above, no longer linked to you.

Availability

The site is free to use and offered without any promise that it will stay up, stay complete, or keep any particular page at any particular address. Designs are merged and corrected as the data improves, so a page can move or disappear.

Changes to these terms

They change when the site does, and the date at the top says when last. The current version is always at tackregatta.com/terms/.

Which law applies

Italian law, and the courts of the place where the controller is established. If you use the site as a consumer, this does not take away the protections your own country's law gives you.
